Membership in these societies is often seen as a prestigious accomplishment and can offer students additional opportunities for personal growth, scholarships, and college applications.




NEHSNational English Honor Society

The National English Honor Society (NEHS) celebrates the academic brilliance of high school students worldwide, igniting their passion for the English language arts.

NEHS is the premier honor society for high school students who are captivated by English language and literature, creative writing, theatre and drama, film and media studies, and journalism. This unique society offers an unparalleled chance for students, teachers, and schools to engage in an enriching, discipline-specific international community.

National Honor Society (NHS) membership has been the true mark of student achievement for over 100 years, but it goes far beyond a report card. By empowering, championing, and recognizing well-rounded students, NHS provides schools with a values-based framework to elevate a culture of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

NHS chapters operate in all 50 states and many schools around the world, engaging and serving more than 1.4 million students.

NEHSNational Chinese Honor Society

The National Chinese Honor Society (NCHS) is dedicated to the advancement of Chinese language study in public and independent secondary schools and is sponsored by the Chinese Language Association of Secondary-Elementary Schools (CLASS).

The National Chinese Honor Society was established in November 1993. Its objective is to acknowledge the superior achievement of secondary students studying Chinese as a second language. Like other honor societies, the National Chinese Honor Society not only recognizes high scholastic achievement but also good character, leadership, and service. NCHS members should exemplify all these standards. The Society’s goal is to promote enthusiasm for Chinese language learning and culture, commitment to advanced study, and greater cross-cultural understanding.

NEHSInternational Thespian Society

The International Thespian Society is the only theatre honor society for middle and high school students in the United States. Affiliation brings credibility and distinction to students, theatre programs, and schools. It is a visible, positive symbol of the quality of your theatre program.

ITS recognizes, rewards, and encourages student achievement and celebrates the work of students in all aspects of theatre – performance and production. Each student is honored on a national level and gains access to opportunities and resources beyond those of their school.

NEHSMu Alpha Theta Honor Society

Mu Alpha Theta, the National High School and Two-Year College Mathematics Honor Society, was formed in 1957 at the University of Oklahoma.

We are dedicated to inspiring a keen interest in mathematics, developing strong scholarship in the subject, and promoting the enjoyment of mathematics in high school and two-year college students.

NEHSFrench National Honor Society

The aim of the French National Honor Society shall be to stimulate interest in the study of French, to promote high standards of scholarship, to reward scholastic achievements, to create enthusiasm for and an understanding of Francophone cultures, and to promote international friendship.

The Société Honoraire de Français was established through presidential order by the American Association of Teachers of French in 1949 as an affiliate of the AATF.

NEHSSpanish National Honor Society

Spanish National Honor Society, SNHS (also known as La Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, SHH) is an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish (or Portuguese), sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. The mission of Spanish National Honor Society/La Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is to recognize high school achievement in Spanish and Portuguese and to promote interest in Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian studies.

Outside Agencies

Complaints regarding violations of Title VI, (race, national origin), Title IX (sex, gender), Section 504/ADA (handicap or disability), may be filed directly with the Office for Civil Rights, U.S. Department of Education, 1244 North Speer Blvd., Suite 310, Denver, CO 80204. Complaints regarding violations of Title VII (employment) and the ADEA (prohibiting age discrimination in employment) may be filed directly with the Federal Office of Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, 303 E. 17th Ave., Suite 510, Denver, CO 80202, or the Colorado Civil Rights Commission, 1560 Broadway, Suite 1050, Denver, CO 80202.

NOTICE OF DESTRUCTION OF SPECIAL EDUCATION RECORDS

Special Education records which have been collected by Douglas County School District related to the identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of special education in the district, must be maintained under state and federal laws for the period of five (5) years after special education services have ended for the student. Special education services end when the student is no longer eligible for services, graduates, or completes his/her educational program at age 21, or moves from the district. This notification is to inform parents/guardians and former students of Douglas County School District's intent to destroy the special education records of students who exited special education services as of June 30, 2016. These records will be destroyed in accordance with state law unless the parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student notifies the school district otherwise. After five years, the records are no longer useful to the district, but may be useful to the parent/guardian or former student in applying for social security benefits, rehabilitation services, college entrance, etc. The parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student may request a copy of the records by requesting the records at this link ( Douglas County School District Transcripts and Records Requests ).
