College Application Process

<< Return to Post Grad Main Page

The First Step

If you are applying through Common App, you must link your Common App account with Naviance. This can be done from the “Colleges I am Applying to” tab; where you will see a red button that says “Match Accounts” at the top of the page.

If you are applying to the institution directly, you need to manually add the college names in Naviance. If you need to add your college to Naviance complete the following:

At the top in the search bar that says “Type a college name” type the college then search:

- Click on the box to the left of your college
- Click on the “Red Heart” to mark as a favorite
- Click on “Colleges I’m thinking about” dropdown
- Checkmark the box to the left of the college
- Click on “MOVE TO APPLICATION LIST”

  • Which application deadline do you prefer?” click on the dropdown and choose the best fit for you. See “General College Information” tab for Admission Options definitions.

Mark how you will submit your application by clicking on the dropdown and choosing Common App or Direct to the institution.
If you have already submitted the application, click on the box next to “I’ve already sent my application”; leave blank if you have not applied yet.

The Second Step depends on which way you are applying

If you are applying directly to a college:

  • Request a transcript through Naviance and make a payment of $3 per school on MySchoolBucks.com.
  • Check if your school requires a Letter of Recommendation (LOR) and if so; speak to your teacher to ensure they are willing to write one before inputting the request through Naviance.
    • While post grad facilitates the submission process through Naviance, it is ultimately the student’s responsibility to confirm that teachers have uploaded their recommendation letters before the college deadline. Feel free to remind them and ensure you are communicating upcoming college deadlines with them so everyone is on the same page.

If you are applying through Common App:

  • Sign into Common App using your personal email and sign the FERPA waiver
  • Match your Naviance account to your Common App account (complete this step in Naviance on the “Colleges I am Applying to” tab)
  • Request a transcript through Naviance and make a payment of $3 per school on MySchoolBucks.com.
  • Check if your school requires a Letter of Recommendation (LOR) and if so; speak to your teacher to ensure they are willing to write one before inputting the request through Naviance. Do not request letters of recommendation through Common App
