Advanced Placement (AP)

Each year, the College Board recognizes high school students who have demonstrated college level achievement through multiple AP courses and exams. Some of the awards and their requirements are as follows:

• AP Scholar: Granted to students who receive grades of 3.0 or higher on three or more AP Exams on full-year courses (or the equivalent).

• AP Scholar with Honor: Granted to students who receive an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and grades of 3.0 or higher on four or more of these exams.

• AP Scholar with Distinction: Granted to students who receive an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3.0 or higher on five or more of these exams on full-year courses (or the equivalents).

AP Capstone is a diploma program based on two yearlong AP courses: AP Seminar and AP Research. These courses are designed to complement other AP courses that the AP Capstone student may take. These courses use an interdisciplinary approach to develop the critical thinking, research, collaboration, time management, and presentation skills students need for college-level work. 

Students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research and on four additional AP Exams of their choosing receive the AP Capstone Diploma. Students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research but not on four additional AP Exams receive the AP Seminar and Research Certificate.

REFUND POLICY

• At LHS all students are expected to take the AP Exam. We believe the experience and rigor of the exam is helpful in creating college readiness.

• Test Refusals must be approved by the LHS AP Coordinator, Jason Morgan.

• Students who refuse the test are still expected to take a cumulative exam administered by the teacher.

• There will be NO REFUNDS approved after November 1st as exams have been ordered.

• For students who don’t show for the exam, a $40.00 restocking fee will be issued and the student will be contacted by the classroom teacher to take a comprehensive exam before credit will be issued.

• For students who drop or level change the class after the first two weeks of school, a $40.00 restocking fee will be issued.

*Art and Design—AP 2-D Art and Design, 3-D Art and Design, and Drawing: Last day for coordinators to submit digital portfolios (by 8 p.m. ET) and to gather 2-D Art and Design and Drawing students for physical portfolio assembly.
